Schumacher holds the record for the most races

GREENBURGH, N. Ray Lewis Super bowl Jersey .Y. — Their first practice of the season finishing, the Knicks gathered in a circle for a song. “Happy Birthday to you!” they sang to centre Tyson Chandler, who turned 30 on Tuesday. “I was feeling young until today,” Chandler said. He still is, compared to some of his new teammates. The Knicks went the veteran route in the off-season — really veteran. They added a forward who turns 40 this week, a 39-year-old guard, and are soon expected to have two 38-year-old frontcourt reserves. Oh, and one of their rookies is 35. Assuming 38-year-old Rasheed Wallace ends his retirement and signs with the Knicks this week, as expected, their 13-man rotation would average 32 years and 240 days old, the oldest in NBA history, according to research by STATS, LLC. Too old? “I dont think so,” Chandler said, noting that the Dallas Mavericks team he helped to win the 2011 title averaged nearly 30 years of age. “Obviously, weve got some guys a little over that mark, but you know what, the guys that we do have are going to bring great veteran leadership and they bring a calmness around the team that we didnt have before, and its only going to benefit us. In order to win in this league, youve got to have veterans.” Kurt Thomas, a former Knick reacquired along with Raymond Felton from Portland, will turn 40 on Thursday. Jason Kidd will get there next March 23, born just a few months before the Knicks won their most recent championship. Marcus Camby returns for his second stint with the Knicks at 38, and Argentine point guard Pablo Prigioni finally comes to the NBA at 35. Just the way coach Mike Woodson wants it after starting with a young Atlanta Hawks team in his first NBA head coaching opportunity. “That was fun, but I think the fact that I got this veteran team, its going to make life a little bit more easier because theyve been around and they know how to play,” Woodson said. “And Ive just got to pace them and direct them and put them in the right position.” Woodson is doing that partly by only holding one practice a day during training camp. Thats not entirely due to the Knicks age, because he said hed already stopped believing in the usefulness of two-a-days. He does believe in veterans and doesnt think he had enough of them last season, particularly in the frontcourt behind Chandler and Amare Stoudemire. Camby and Thomas address that and bring the defensive-minded mindset that Woodson favours. “Its veteran teams that are winning titles, and I think what we tried to do here is assemble enough talent on the team for that, What if?” Woodson said. “If this guy gets hurt, maybe he can fill in.” Plagued by injuries early in his career, Camby has become stronger as the years went on and enters his 17th season, with Chandler saying he believes the No. 2 pick in the 1996 draft can get to 20. Kidd, who was with Chandler on the Mavs title team before leaving for New York this summer, is set for his 19th season. He is expected to serve as the backup to Felton, but the likely future Hall of Famer said hes prepared for a bigger role if given. “Im in the best shape probably in the last five years,” Kidd said, “so I feel great and if I have to play a lot of minutes, I could do that.” The Knicks have watched the Boston Celtics rule their division in recent years, so they see the value of solid veterans. They insist they arent too old, general manager Glen Grunwald saying Monday that he feels the Knicks “didnt get older, we feel we got more experienced and better.” If the old guys stay healthy, the Knicks will be able to fill some holes in their roster. If not, it will only create a new set of problems. Chandler is counting on it to work. “All of those guys are bringing a different element to this team that we didnt have last year,” he said. “We had a lot of young guys. We were all over the place. We won basketball games, it was exciting, we had our ups and downs, but it wasnt consistent. Veterans like this bring consistency and thats ultimately whats going to get us to win basketball games.” Ramon Harewood Jersey . In a letter to council, a spokesman for Oilers owner Daryl Katz says it makes more sense to hash out those issues in private with city bureaucrats before meeting publicly with Mayor Stephen Mandel and council. “While we appreciate the mayors invitation, we do not think such a meeting can be productive until we have reduced the outstanding issues,” John Karvellas, a vice-president for the Katz Group, said in the three-sentence press release posted on the Oilers website. http://www.theravenssportsstore.com/dennis-pitta-jersey/ . Mercedes announced last week that Schumacher would be replaced by Lewis Hamilton next season, and while there was speculation the 43-year-old German could move to Sauber, he instead announced on Thursday that he would end his racing career. “Basically, Ive decided to retire at the end of the year,” Schumacher said at the Japanese Grand Prix. “Although I was able and capable of competing with the best drivers that are around, at some point its time to say goodbye and this time it might be forever.” Schumacher holds the record for championships and grand prix wins, with 91. He began his career in 1991 and won two titles with Benetton then five for Ferrari. He initially retired in 2006 then came back with Mercedes in 2010. The comeback has not lived up to expectations, with just one podium finish. “Its without doubt that we did not achieve our goals to develop a world championship fighting car,” Schumacher said. “But it is also very clear I can be happy with my overall achievements.” Mercedes team boss Ross Brawn paid tribute to Schumacher. Brawn was also chief strategist at Ferrari when Schumacher and the Italian team became so dominant thhat the sports authorities made several rule changes to spice up the level of competition. Haloti Ngata Camo Jersey. “Hes the most courageous racing driver of the century,” Brawn said “And I feel very privileged to have worked with Michael from the beginning.” Schumacher said he hasnt decided what he will do after the season, saying he just wants to focus on the final six races. He has struggled this season, and was issued a 10-place grid penalty at Suzuka for causing a spectacular crash with Toro Rossos Jean-Eric Vergne during the Singapore GP. “There is no point in the need to make any decisions right now,” Schumacher said. “I have options obviously but whatever it will be will be made in time.” Schumacher acknowledged he considered retiring even before the announcement of Hamiltons move to Mercedes. “During the past month I was not sure if I still had the motivation and energy which is necessary to go on,” Schumacher said. “It is not my style to do something which I am not 100 per cent feeling for.” Schumacher holds the record for the most races won in a single season, with 13 in 2004. In 2002, he became the only driver in F1 history to finish in the top three in every race of a season, and set the record for most consecutive podium finishes. ‘ ‘ ‘
