MILWAUKEE — Toronto right-hander Kyle Drabek will undergo Tommy John surgery Tuesday and miss the remainder of the season. Patrick Willis Camo Jersey . Drabek felt a “popping sensation” in his elbow last week during an outing against the Washington Nationals. Preliminary tests showed Drabek suffered a torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) and a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews confirmed the diagnosis. The 24-year-old underwent the same procedure four years ago while a member of the Phillies farm system and required 13 months recovery and rehab before returning to the major leagues. In 13 starts this season, Drabek was 4-7 with a 4.67 ERA. Hes one of three Toronto starters dealing with injuries this season. “Based on the multiple evaluations, I think this was the only option,” Jays manager John Farrell said prior to Mondays game against the Brewers in Milwaukee. “In some ways, because of the extent of the injury, it was pretty much taken out of his hands and the proper road and the best course of action is to have the surgery done.” Drabek is only one of Torontos three ailing starters. Right-hander Drew Hutchinson will get a second opinion on his ailing elbow this week by Dr. Tim Kremcheck in Cincinnati. A third starter, right-hander Brandon Morrow, is on the disabled list with a strained rib cage muscle. Dwight Clark Jersey . The 21-year-old forward had 71 points (26 goals, 45 assists) and 106 penalty minutes in 62 games with the Ontario Hockey Leagues Niagara IceDogs this season. Frank Gore White Jersey . Suddenly, San Francisco is right back in the chase, and well before the All-Star break. Pablo Sandoval hit a two-run double and sacrifice fly to help Barry Zito end a three-start losing streak, and the Giants beat NL West-leading Los Angeles 8-0 on Monday night. http://www.sf49erssportsshop.com/patrick-willis-jersey/. The 30-year-old Calgary native has appeared in 136 career NHL games with Phoenix, Edmonton and Minnesota, recording 20 goals, 41 points and a plus-1 rating. Through 34 games with Abbotsford this year, Kolanos leads the club with 40 points (18G, 22A) and was chosen to participate in the AHL All-Star game this past weekend. Justin Smith Jersey . Matt Kemp has been out since May 30. Ethiers move was retroactive to June 28. The right fielder was batting .291 with 23 doubles, 10 home runs and 55 RBIs in 75 games this season. Kemp, who plays centre field, has been bothered by a recurring left hamstring problem. Carlos Rogers Super bowl Jersey . Knowing such good fortune was unlikely to last, Goodes put it out of his mind and finished Fridays opening round of the Principal Charity Classic nearly as well as he started it. LIEGE, Belgium — George Hincapie is the last American to wear the yellow jersey, and is about to accomplish something that no other rider has: start his 17th Tour de France. The 39-year-old rider has played a key role in nine Tours during 19-year career, including in all the seven races Lance Armstrong had won. On Saturday, when this years race starts in Belgium, the six-foot-three New Yorker will start the campaign to help defending champion Cadel Evans of Australia keep the yellow jersey they won together last year with the BMC Racing team. If he rides into Paris July 22 when the race ends, Hincapie will have finished 16 Tours, levelling the record, set by Dutchman Joop Zoetemelk, who finished the last of his 16 Tours in 1986. To put that into perspective, the 16 Tours plus the 14 stages Hincapie finished in 1996, amount to nearly 60,000 kilometres (37,282 miles) of cycling around France — or one-and-a-half times around the Earth. While riding onto the Paris Champs Elysees after three weeks of mountain climbs and speedy dissents around France, and beyond, is one Hincapies favourite career memories, he said finishing the Tour is never easy. “Its such a hard race. People dont understand what riders go through in three weeks of the Tour de France,” Hincapie said. “Theres so much suffering and pain involved that getting to the Champs is always a special moment.” The five-time Olympian will not compete in the London Games next month, but will likely ridee the USA Pro Cycling Challenge in August before retiring from the sport in autumn. Donte Whitner Womens Jersey. “I came to the conclusion that I want to go out while I can still contribute and make a difference,” Hincapie said earlier this month when he talked about his plans to retire. Hincapie became professional rider in 1994. He has raced his first Tour in 1996 — the only time he failed to complete the race. Its the first stage of his eighth Tour, in 2003, that is special for Hincapie because he met his wife, a Tour de France podium girl at the time. “The Tours brought me everything, my wife, my kids, my name, everything,” Hincapie said. Hincapie was Armstrongs longtime aide during the mountain stages of the Tour, helping him win each of his seven titles. He also helped Alberto Contador win the Tour in 2007 and was key in Cadel Evans win last summer. While hes most well known for being a faithful servant to other riders — in cycling, the term is gregario — Hincapie has quite a few personal achievements. He wore the yellow jersey for one stage during the 2006 Tour, making him the last American to have that honour. Hes won a stage in the Tour de France, and has been a constant threat in cyclings spring classics, winning Gent-Wevelgem in 2001 and finishing second at Paris-Roubaix in 2005. Hes also won Three Days of De Panne and the Tour of Missouri during nearly two decades of racing. Hincapie won national road race titles in 1998, 2006 and 2009. ‘ ‘ ‘

The London 2012 Olympic Games are drawing near. Colin Kaepernick 49ers Jersey . To celebrate each five-day mark, CTVOlympics.ca brings you up to speed on the biggest stories unfolding in the countdown to London 2012. Weather or Not Concerns over the wet British weather have been front and centre—especially after Great Britain recorded its wettest June on record. “Its only a bit of British weather,” said Charles Powell, a spokesman for the Met office, the national forecaster. “Its naturally variable.” But London Olympic organizers say they are ready for whatever Mother Nature brings.”The main thing is that we are used to it and we have planned accordingly,” said Debbie Jevans, director of sport for the Olympic Games. “It is something that is a fact of life. That is why our country is so lovely and green.”  Plans have been drawn to make sure organizers and spectators get the most up-to-date information possible. Weather forecasters will be working around the clock, providing long- and short-range forecasts for the event.   Getting into Rhythm Widely considered to be a long shot to make the final at the London 2102 Olympic Games, the Canadian womens rhythmic gymnastics team proved they have the ability to hang with some of the worlds best.  After reaching the final of the World Cup on Sunday, the six-member team finished in eighth spot, and were in contention for placement as high as fifth. “Our goal going into the competition was to make one final and in that final to compete with no major mistakes and we accomplished that,” said Alexandra Landry of Toronto. “On day two we were much stronger and stuck all our elements with no drops.” Other members of the team are Anjelika Reznik, Anastasiya Muntyanu, and Rose Cossar, all of Toronto, Kelsey Titmarsh of Thornhill, Ont., and Katrina Cameron of Mississauga, Ont. “With three weeks of training left until we step into the Olympic village, were already feeling ready,” said Landry. Gotta be Dreaming Count American President Barack Obama on the side of the Dream Team. Obama disagreed with a recent statement made by Los Angeles Lakers and Team USA guard Kobe Bryant that the 2012 team could beat the Dream Team from 1992. “This is a generational thing,” Obama said during the halftime interview of Team USAs exhibition win over Brazil on Monday. “I was around in 92, I was a Bulls fan, so Ive got to go with the original Dream Team.” The Dream Team, which was formed 20 years ago and rolled to gold at Barcelona 1992, featured 11 players now in the Hall of Fame.  “I suspect that Michael and Sir Charles (Barkley)  and others would point out they were probably never down at any point in any of their games,” Obama said. “But this is a great team, unbelievable talent.” The president added: “You know, Kobes a competitor, so you expect him to do a little trash talking whenever the opportunity arises.” Colin Kaepernick Black Jersey . The 17-year-old leads the QMJHL scoring list with two goals, five assists and a plus-6 rating. The Minnesota Twins signed Josh Willingham to be their hammer in situations just like this, and the struggling slugger delivered in a big way against the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday night. Justin Smith Red Jersey . The team says an MRI on Sunday confirmed he tore the plantar fascia tissue and will return “as his symptoms permit. Randy Moss Elite Jersey . On Tuesday, both sides finally got their wish. After a 5 1/2-week absence from the Colts off-season workouts, the No. 1 overall draft pick showed up in a red No.Manchester, England (Sports Network) – Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand will not take part in his teams opening match at Everton on Monday, and could miss the next month because of a groin injury. Ferdinands absence comes at a time when United is already short on defenders with Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Jonny Evans all missing for Mondays game. Evans has missed the entire summer because of ankle surgery, while Smalling is expected to be out until October after he had an operation to repair a broken metatarsal. Joones has been battling back spasms and he has been advised to rest for the next month. Colin Kaepernick White Jersey. Injury trouble is nothing new to Ferdinand, but the 33-year-old is coming off of a season in which he appeared in 30 Premiership matches for the Red Devils. Nemanja Vidic is expected to take part in his first match for the club since a knee injury sidelined him for the rest of the season last December, while midfielder Michael Carrick could be called upon to partner Vidic in the middle of the back line on Monday. ‘ ‘ ‘

GREENBURGH, N. Ray Lewis Super bowl Jersey .Y. — Their first practice of the season finishing, the Knicks gathered in a circle for a song. “Happy Birthday to you!” they sang to centre Tyson Chandler, who turned 30 on Tuesday. “I was feeling young until today,” Chandler said. He still is, compared to some of his new teammates. The Knicks went the veteran route in the off-season — really veteran. They added a forward who turns 40 this week, a 39-year-old guard, and are soon expected to have two 38-year-old frontcourt reserves. Oh, and one of their rookies is 35. Assuming 38-year-old Rasheed Wallace ends his retirement and signs with the Knicks this week, as expected, their 13-man rotation would average 32 years and 240 days old, the oldest in NBA history, according to research by STATS, LLC. Too old? “I dont think so,” Chandler said, noting that the Dallas Mavericks team he helped to win the 2011 title averaged nearly 30 years of age. “Obviously, weve got some guys a little over that mark, but you know what, the guys that we do have are going to bring great veteran leadership and they bring a calmness around the team that we didnt have before, and its only going to benefit us. In order to win in this league, youve got to have veterans.” Kurt Thomas, a former Knick reacquired along with Raymond Felton from Portland, will turn 40 on Thursday. Jason Kidd will get there next March 23, born just a few months before the Knicks won their most recent championship. Marcus Camby returns for his second stint with the Knicks at 38, and Argentine point guard Pablo Prigioni finally comes to the NBA at 35. Just the way coach Mike Woodson wants it after starting with a young Atlanta Hawks team in his first NBA head coaching opportunity. “That was fun, but I think the fact that I got this veteran team, its going to make life a little bit more easier because theyve been around and they know how to play,” Woodson said. “And Ive just got to pace them and direct them and put them in the right position.” Woodson is doing that partly by only holding one practice a day during training camp. Thats not entirely due to the Knicks age, because he said hed already stopped believing in the usefulness of two-a-days. He does believe in veterans and doesnt think he had enough of them last season, particularly in the frontcourt behind Chandler and Amare Stoudemire. Camby and Thomas address that and bring the defensive-minded mindset that Woodson favours. “Its veteran teams that are winning titles, and I think what we tried to do here is assemble enough talent on the team for that, What if?” Woodson said. “If this guy gets hurt, maybe he can fill in.” Plagued by injuries early in his career, Camby has become stronger as the years went on and enters his 17th season, with Chandler saying he believes the No. 2 pick in the 1996 draft can get to 20. Kidd, who was with Chandler on the Mavs title team before leaving for New York this summer, is set for his 19th season. He is expected to serve as the backup to Felton, but the likely future Hall of Famer said hes prepared for a bigger role if given. “Im in the best shape probably in the last five years,” Kidd said, “so I feel great and if I have to play a lot of minutes, I could do that.” The Knicks have watched the Boston Celtics rule their division in recent years, so they see the value of solid veterans. They insist they arent too old, general manager Glen Grunwald saying Monday that he feels the Knicks “didnt get older, we feel we got more experienced and better.” If the old guys stay healthy, the Knicks will be able to fill some holes in their roster. If not, it will only create a new set of problems. Chandler is counting on it to work. “All of those guys are bringing a different element to this team that we didnt have last year,” he said. “We had a lot of young guys. We were all over the place. We won basketball games, it was exciting, we had our ups and downs, but it wasnt consistent. Veterans like this bring consistency and thats ultimately whats going to get us to win basketball games.” Ramon Harewood Jersey . Manziel, the redshirt freshman quarterback from Texas A&M, and Teo, Notre Dames star linebacker, along with Kansas State quarterback Collin Klein, were invited Monday to attend the Heisman presentation ceremony. James Ihedigbo Jersey . In a letter to council, a spokesman for Oilers owner Daryl Katz says it makes more sense to hash out those issues in private with city bureaucrats before meeting publicly with Mayor Stephen Mandel and council. “While we appreciate the mayors invitation, we do not think such a meeting can be productive until we have reduced the outstanding issues,” John Karvellas, a vice-president for the Katz Group, said in the three-sentence press release posted on the Oilers website. http://www.theravenssportsstore.com/dennis-pitta-jersey/ . Panzeri, 26, made nine birdies in 12 holes to reach 8 under par, just ahead of 11 other players who all sit within three shots of the lead. “To be honest, thats one of the best stretches Ive had ever,” said Panzeri. Ed Reed Womens Jersey . – Two-time tournament champion Jim Furyk, 2012 Players Championship winner Matt Kuchar and 2012 US Open champion Webb Simpson will be among those trying to dethrone defending champion Sean OHair at the US$5. Lardarius Webb Jersey . Molinari revealed after finishing with a share of 11th place in Sundays Andalucian Open, that he has been carrying the injury for some four years.SUZUKA, Japan — Seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher confirmed he will retire for good at the end of the Formula One season. Mercedes announced last week that Schumacher would be replaced by Lewis Hamilton next season, and while there was speculation the 43-year-old German could move to Sauber, he instead announced on Thursday that he would end his racing career. “Basically, Ive decided to retire at the end of the year,” Schumacher said at the Japanese Grand Prix. “Although I was able and capable of competing with the best drivers that are around, at some point its time to say goodbye and this time it might be forever.” Schumacher holds the record for championships and grand prix wins, with 91. He began his career in 1991 and won two titles with Benetton then five for Ferrari. He initially retired in 2006 then came back with Mercedes in 2010. The comeback has not lived up to expectations, with just one podium finish. “Its without doubt that we did not achieve our goals to develop a world championship fighting car,” Schumacher said. “But it is also very clear I can be happy with my overall achievements.” Mercedes team boss Ross Brawn paid tribute to Schumacher. Brawn was also chief strategist at Ferrari when Schumacher and the Italian team became so dominant thhat the sports authorities made several rule changes to spice up the level of competition. Haloti Ngata Camo Jersey. “Hes the most courageous racing driver of the century,” Brawn said “And I feel very privileged to have worked with Michael from the beginning.” Schumacher said he hasnt decided what he will do after the season, saying he just wants to focus on the final six races. He has struggled this season, and was issued a 10-place grid penalty at Suzuka for causing a spectacular crash with Toro Rossos Jean-Eric Vergne during the Singapore GP. “There is no point in the need to make any decisions right now,” Schumacher said. “I have options obviously but whatever it will be will be made in time.” Schumacher acknowledged he considered retiring even before the announcement of Hamiltons move to Mercedes. “During the past month I was not sure if I still had the motivation and energy which is necessary to go on,” Schumacher said. “It is not my style to do something which I am not 100 per cent feeling for.” Schumacher holds the record for the most races won in a single season, with 13 in 2004. In 2002, he became the only driver in F1 history to finish in the top three in every race of a season, and set the record for most consecutive podium finishes. ‘ ‘ ‘

VANCOUVER – Last week, receiver Geroy Simon was looking to put his name in the CFLs history books. Courtney Upshaw Jersey . This week, he and the rest of the B.C. Lions are looking for redemption against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Friday night. Watch the game live on TSN at 10pm et/7pm pt. Simon set the CFLs all-time receiving record in B.C.s season-opening win over Winnipeg. But he and his teammates are dissatisfied with recent efforts against Hamilton. The Ticats have won four of the past five-regular-season meetings between the teams dating to 2009. Including playoffs, the Southern Ontario squad is 4-2 against B.C. in the same time span. “Were looking to play better against these guys,” said Simon after a walk-through Thursday at B.C. Place Stadium. “We havent played particularly well the last couple of years. Theyve had our number, so were looking to turn the tide and get a victory.” Simon is looking forward to a more normal game after being the centre of attention before and after eclipsing retired Bomber great Milt Stegalls record. Most of Simons friends and family have gone home following the history-setting night, when he caught five passes for 105 yards in the Grey Cup rematch to reach 15,192 yards for his career. Two friends are coming in from Winnipeg for Fridays contest, when the Lions will pay him a longer tribute during a special half-time ceremony. But Simon expects to be able to concentrate better against Hamilton. “Things are back to normal,” he said. “Im feeling good. Im ready to go. Hardly no distractions, so Im ready to rock and roll.” But the Lions have not been able to produce much in the way of a melody against Tiger-Cats lately. Hamilton went 2-0 against the Lions last season, beating them 39-31 in July. The loss was the fourth of five straight season-opening setbacks for the Lions. B.C. soon turned its fortunes around, winning 11 of its next 12 games en route to the sixth Grey Cup in franchise history. But the Lions have still not solved the Ticats puzzle. The lone loss in the late-season surge was to Hamilton — in the form of a 42-10 whitewashing. No other team has beaten B.C. since then. Simon, who routinely amasses more than 100 receiving yards per game, has been limited to double-digit yardage in the past six games, five in the regular season and one in the playoffs, between the clubs. “I think Ive played okay,” said Simon, who was held to 42 yards in their last meeting, in October. “I could have have played better. I got a couple big hits on me last year, in the last game we played in Hamilton. But last year was last year. Im looking to gain on the momentum that we achieved last week.” B.C. tailback Andrew Harris also hopes to pick up on the momentum of last week and late last season, when he emerged as a starter en route to being named top Canadian in the Grey Cup. But he is also looking for some redemption against Hamilton. Last season, he was still a backup in the first game in July and did not play much in a 39-31 loss, managing a respectable 13 yards on two carries. In the second game, he was sidelined with a shoulder injury in the second quarter after gaining 40 yards on just three carries. “Im just hoping to get a full game and, at the end of the game, two points,” said Harris. Rookie B.C. offensive guard Matt Norman is also looking to redeem himself after struggling in his CFL debut. He started against the Bombers but played spariningly in the second half. “Its a fast, big, strong league,” he said. “Youre playing against smart football players. Obviously, theres going to be a learning curve, which there is to anything. So Im just going to keep plugging away.” New Lions coach Mike Benevides, who was around for the previous losses as an assistant, hopes B.C. has learned a few lessons from their most recent encounters with Hamilton. He said the Lions must get out to a much better and more aggressive start than they did previously. Benevides attributes the Lions struggles with the Ticats to several factors, not the least of which is familiarity. Several ex-Lions wearing yellow and black have come back to haunt B.C. Most have gone, but hard-hitting linebackers Jamall Johnson and Markeith Knowlton remain. Quarterback Travis Lulay expects the duo to be part of constant pressure that he will face from a difficult Hamiton defence. He also wants the Lions to cut down on their penalties after seeing four first downs nullified by infractions against Winnipeg. The Ticats are also looking for redemption after losing 43-16 to Saskatchewan in their season opener under new coach George Cortez. But Benevides and Lulay contend, as with their 33-13 win over Winnipeg, the game was much closer than the score indicated. “Theyre stung a little bit about how the first week went, and we know how this is, to come off a loss and come back after the first half of last season,” said Lulay. “This an important week for them, so we know well get a great effort from them.” Notes: Lions offensive guard Jon Hameister-Ries, who missed two practices this week because of lingering effects of a knee injury suffered in training camp, will be a game-time decision. Fellow B.C. guard Dean Valli (knee). … The B.C. Place roof will be open. The Lions have pledged to let fans know the roofs status earlier so that they can dress accordingly. … Knowlton will return to Hamiltons starting lineup after being used as a backup last week. Haloti Ngata Camo Jersey . Goran Dragic had 13 points and six assists for the Suns, who won two of their last three. Jordan Hamilton scored 15 points and Kenneth Faried added 12 for the Nuggets, who were without starters Danilo Gallinari and Andre Iguodala. Ray Lewis Camo Jersey .Peterson won her first match of the competition with a 10-9 victory over Anna Bentley of Great Britain in the opening round. It was the first Olympic Games appearance for the 28-year-old Peterson. SEATTLE — Marshawn Lynch and the Seattle Seahawks took control of the clock and the scoreboard in the second half, shutting down Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys. Lynch ran for 122 yards and a 3-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, Seattles special teams came up with two huge first-quarter plays that led to 10 points, and the Seahawks beat the Cowboys 27-7 on Sunday. Michael Robinson forced Felix Jones to fumble on the opening kickoff that led to a short field goal, and Malcolm Smith blocked Chris Jones punt which Jeron Johnson returned for a touchdown to give Seattle (1-1) a 10-0 lead in less than 5 minutes. Rookie Russell Wilson threw for 151 yards in his first NFL victory, directing a 90-yard scoring drive in the third quarter capped by a 22-yard touchdown strike to Anthony McCoy to give Seattle a 20-7 lead. Romo threw a 22-yard TD to Miles Austin in the second quarter, but that was the only sustained drive the Cowboys (1-1) could mount on the Seahawks stout defence. Lynch finished with 26 carries and ran for 104 yards in the second half as Seattle dominated possession. He had a dynamic 36-yard run in the third quarter, carrying tacklers in the open field, and Seattle rebounded from its season opening loss at Arizona where the Seahawks failed to score in the closing seconds. Wilson was 15 of 20 passing, including 6 of 8 in the second half, and a passer rating of 112.7. Steven Hauschka kicked field goals of 21 and 25 yards for the Seahawks. Romo finished 23 of 40 for 251 yards, but was able to direct only one scoring drive despite having extra time to prepare for the Seahawks. Dallas was trying to open the season with consecutive wins for the first time since 2008, but now heads home to face Tampa Bay wondering if theyre more like the team that knocked off the New York Giants in the season opener or the one that flopped in Seattle. Romo was trying to put in the past the demons of his last visit to Seattle — the 2006 NFC wild-card game where Romo bobbled the snap of a poteential game-winning field goal in the final minutes then was tripped up on his way to the end zone short of the winning score. Ray Lewis Limited Jersey. For all the victories Romo has earned for the Cowboys since, that bobble remains a defining chapter in his career. Dallas early special teams meltdown didnt help Romo in erasing those memories, but he was guilty of mistakes himself. Down 10-0, the Cowboys drove to the Seattle 24, only to see Romo make a rushed decision to throw into traffic where his pass was intercepted by Brandon Browner. Romo nearly had two other passes intercepted and never was able to mount a drive of longer than 45 yards in the second or third quarters as Seattle took control. Dallas had 112 total yards in the first quarter and just 184 over the final three quarters — 51 of those coming in the final minute of the game. Kevin Ogletree, a star with two touchdowns in the Cowboys opener, was held without a reception. From the opening kickoff, Romo and the Cowboys were playing from behind. Jones fumble was recovered by Earl Thomas at the Dallas 29. The Seahawks drove to the 3, but Wilsons third down pass for Sidney Rice was nearly intercepted by Bruce Carter and Seattle settled for the first of two short field goals from Hauschka. Dallas went three-and-out on its first possession with the drive stalling after Witten dropped a third down pass. The Cowboys punt barely left Jones foot as Smith reached out with his right hand to block the kick, which one-hopped perfectly into the hands Johnson, who strolled in for the Seahawks second blocked punt return for a touchdown in their last six games dating to last season. Seattle played without left tackle Russell Okung, who suffered a bone bruise in his left knee late in the Week 1 loss at Arizona. Without Okung, the duty of keep DeMarcus Ware off the back of Wilson fell to Frank Omiyale and he did a more than serviceable job. Other than pressuring Wilson on a deep pass for Golden Tate in the first half, Wares name was rarely mentioned. ‘ ‘ ‘

Revis thinks a sit-down with owner Woody

Saturday, January 26th, 2013

FLORHAM PARK, N. Dennis Pitta Womens Jersey .J. — Darrelle Revis has been with his New York Jets teammates for every off-season workout, and the All-Pro cornerback always planned to be around for mandatory minicamp. When it comes to training camp, though, hes still not sure whether hell report on time. “I cant answer that question right now,” Revis said with a smile after the Jets first minicamp practice Tuesday. “I really cant.” Revis has two years remaining on the $46 million deal he signed in 2010 — termed a “Band-Aid” contract by the team and Revis agents — and said there has been no movement, as far as he knows, on talks with the team on possibly re-doing his deal. “I havent talked to my agents,” Revis said. “So, I cant really speak on that right now.” Revis held out of training camp before signing his rookie deal in 2007, and then again two years ago. “I have grown,” he said. “This is my sixth year, and Ive grown. Ive been in a lot of situations and you guys have to remember, even when I was a rookie, my rookie contract, I came in late. The second one, it was the same type of scenario. Well see.” While nothing appears scheduled at the moment, Revis thinks a sit-down with owner Woody Johnson and general manager Mike Tannenbaum regarding his future with the team is inevitable. “Sooner or later, it has to,” Revis said with a laugh. “I mean, Ive got two more years left, so well see, and well go from there. Whatevers best for me and the organization, well get through it.” Revis recently told The Star-Ledger of Newark that hed like to retire as a member of the Jets, and the team has said it would like to see that happen, too. How this latest situation is resolved — or not — could go a long way toward determining that outcome. “I think the situation will take care of itself when its time to,” Revis said. “When you think about those things, yeah, theyre in the back of your mind. But as of right now, you can just focus on what you can do today and improve day by day.” Revis said he didnt receive any feedback from the team on his hopes to retire with the Jets, and didnt expect to. “I dont think guys are really looking at ESPN to see what somebody says or anything,” he said, smiling. “So, nobody came up to me and approached me about it.” Revis has spoken a few times about receiving death threats from fans on Twitter and in emails during his last holdout. He insists the reaction of fans wont factor in any of his decisions this summer. “This is my situation and its my career, and I think thats how you have to look at it,” he said. “Its not like I dont love the New York Jets fans and love the city, love Jersey, love Manhattan. Its nothing about that. This is a situation in my career right now and, sooner or later, we have to talk about it. “Thats how the fans have to look at it. You cant really look at it as, I hate you, or those types of things I get on Twitter.” Marshal Yanda Jersey . — DeMarco Murray isnt ready to think of himself in the same company as Tony Dorsett and Emmitt Smith, though he is already listed among the Dallas Cowboys two Hall of Fame running backs in the team record book. Torrey Smith Pink Jersey .5 million contract with star forward Evander Kane on Saturday night.http://www.theravensfootballshop.com/terrell-suggs-super-bowl-jersey/ . — Miami Dolphins coach Joe Philbin says the decision to release six-time Pro Bowl receiver Chad Johnson wasnt based on any single incident and wasnt made to send a message. Ray Rice Super Bowl Jersey . SEATTLE — Boston Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine insisted Wednesday he wasnt serious when he threatened to “punch” a radio talk-show host in the mouth. Valentine said he made it clear he was kidding when he made the comment earlier in the day during an interview on Boston station WEEI with hosts Glenn Ordway and Michael Holley. “Didnt I go, Ha, ha?” the embattled Valentine asked before his fourth-place team played the Seattle Mariners. “I dont think physical violence is necessary for 60-year-old people.” Ordway, sighting a newspaper report that Valentine arrived later than normal for a game last week in Oakland, asked if the manager had “checked out” on the season. Valentine responded on the air: “What an embarrassing thing to say. If I were there right now, Id punch you right in the mouth. Ha, ha,” Valentine said. “Hows that sound? Sound like I checked out? What an embarrassing thing. Why would somebody even, thats stuff that a comic strip person would write. If someones here, watching me go out at 2 oclock in the afternoon, working with the young players, watching me put in the right relief pitchers to get a win, putting on a hit-and-run when it was necessary, talking to the guys after the game in the food room — how could someone in real life say that?” Meeting later with reporters in Seattle before the game, Valentine acknowledged he took offence to Ordways question and explained that he arrived at the Coliseum in Oakland later than usual — but still 3 hours before the game — because he had picked up his son from the airport and got stuck in traffic. “If anyone in this room or any other room Ive been in in my life wants to question my integrity, I will ask someone to referee that situation,” he said. Valentine added that if a writer “thought that was important and wanted to write seriously about it, they could have asked what the situation was and I would have been happy to tell them. No one asked the reasons.” HHe went on to describe them. Kelechi Osemele Jersey. Valentine said he picked up his son from the San Francisco airport in the morning for his first visit on the road during “this lousy season.” The plane was late, then he had to return to his San Francisco hotel to pick up his game information before driving over the Bay Bridge to the Coliseum. “That was a mistake,” Valentine said. “There was traffic around the hotel and an accident on the freeway. I got there a little later than normal, not late. My workday starts at 4:30 p.m., in my opinion. I got to the stadium at 4:04 p.m.” He said he had called in that nights lineup at 2 p.m. and had checked with the trainer on the condition of injured players. “To see my son for a couple more hours,” he said, “is more than worth the trade-off of sitting around in my underwear in the clubhouse for two hours. “Just ask me the question. Dont think everyone in the room is smart enough to figure out what I meant? Thats not my fault.” Valentine said he told his coaches he would be a little late, and he called in to say he was delayed in traffic on his way to “the stupid Oakland Coliseum.” “For someone to say that I was late is an absolute disgrace to their integrity if they have any,” he said. During the radio interview, Valentine went on to say that his first season as Red Sox manager has been “miserable.” Asked to clarify later, he said: “The last two weeks have been very trying. Lots of obstacles in my way and I thought Ive jumped them, and sometimes you get knocked down by them. “Its turned out to be not what I expected. Its been a little misery, yeah,” he said. “Im not sure its 24/7, but I would think after a loss Im miserable. … Its been adventurous, challenging.” Valentine signed a two-year deal last winter and has said he wants to return in 2013. Red Sox management has maintained that no decision will be made until after the season is over. ‘ ‘ ‘

Cincinnati lowered its magic number to clinch

Saturday, January 26th, 2013

CHICAGO — On the brink of clinching a playoff spot, Brandon Phillips was missing his manager on Wednesday night. Patrick Willis Jersey . Drew Stubbs hit a tiebreaking RBI single in the 11th inning and Cincinnati beat the Chicago Cubs 6-5 without Dusty Baker, who was diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat. Baker left the team before the game to undergo chest X-rays that were intended to rule out pneumonia. Bench coach Chris Speier brought the lineup card to home plate and there was no sign of the 63-year-old Baker during the game. “I guess the good thing is its not pneumonia, but the bad thing he has an irregular heartbeat, so basically they will over keep him over at the hospital and run some more tests in the morning before he is set free,” Reds head trainer Paul Lessard said. Baker, who managed the Cubs for four seasons, hopes to rejoin the Reds on Friday. Phillips lazy popup with two out in the 11th on a windy night at Wrigley Field was misplayed by Cubs right fielder David DeJesus, allowing him to reach second. Stubbs then smoked a run-scoring single to left against Alberto Cabrera (0-1). “I had to worry about my daddy,” Phillips said. “I cant have daddy pass out on us. We cant let that happen. I am glad he is all right. He is going to be in my prayers when I get back to the hotel. Before I go to sleep make sure I say some prayers for him and family also. Hopefully I miss him because I miss him, I miss him and the toothpicks and the wristbands, I miss it all.” Speier said he talked to Baker. “He sounded good and they are just doing their due diligence, just running some tests,” Speier said. “He will be back shortly.” Logan Ondrusek (5-2) worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the 10th to earn the win. Jonathan Broxton earned his fourth save in six chances since joining Cincinnati in July. Joey Votto reached four times and drove in three runs for the Reds (90-59), who have won three straight to become the second team in the majors to reach 90 wins. Cincinnati also moved a season-high 31 games over .500. Alfonso Soriano hit his 30th homer for Chicago, which trailed 5-1 after five innings. Cincinnati lowered its magic number to clinch a playoff spot to one with the Los Angeles Dodgers splitting a doubleheader at Washington. The Reds magic number for a second NL Central title in three years is three. “I am looking forward to it,” Phillips said. “The only time I drink was 2010 (the last time the Reds won the NL Central), that was the first time I tasted alcohol, Im kind of looking forward to that feeling again.” The Reds used five straight singles to score three times in the third. Votto drove in a pair with a bases-loaded single to left and Ryan Ludwick singled in Stubbs to make it 4-0. Votto also doubled in a run in the first. Reds starter Mike Leake retired his first 11 batters before Anthony Rizzos two-out single in the fourth. After a walk to Soriano, Starlin Castro singled in Rizzo. Castro finished with four singles and leads all major league shortstops with 76 RBIs Soriano hit a long two-run drive onto Waveland in the sixth inning, giving him six career 30-homer seasons, including two with the Cubs. He now has 103 RBIs, one short of matching his career high. “He did it in style,” Cubs manager Dale Sveum said. “That ball went walking out of there. I think that was going out regardless of wind.” Castro followed with a two-out single and scored on Luis Valbuenas double down the left-field line, trimming the Reds lead to 5-4. Leake then caught a lackadaisical Valbuena wandering off of second base to end the inning. The 24-year-old right-hander allowed four runs and six hits over six innings. The pesky Cubs rallied with two outs in the eighth against J.J. Hoover, who walked three batters — including one that forced in the tying run. Cubs starter Chris Rusin was tagged for five runs and 10 hits in five innings. The 25-year-old had given up just three runs and nine hits over his last two starts — both of which also lasted five innings. NOTES: Ludwick was taken out for precautionary reasons in the fifth inning due to left groin tightness. … Reds LHP Aroldis Chapman said his fatigued left shoulder “feels good” after throwing a bullpen session. Chapman said through an interpreter that he likely needs two or three more bullpens to work on his command. … The Cubs agreed to a new player development contract with nearby Class-A Kane County. The contract runs through 2014. … Chicago sends Jason Berken (0-1, 7.20 ERA) to the hill in the series finale Thursday against Johnny Cueto (17-9, 2.92). … Soriano didnt hit his first home run of the year until May 15. Should the Bombers choose to enter next season

Saturday, January 26th, 2013

GREENBURGH, N. Marshal Yanda Jersey .Y. — Those Heat-Knicks series of the late 1990s always went the distance, momentum seemingly turning with every game. This chapter appears headed toward a much different conclusion. The Heat have a 3-0 lead, and any momentum the Knicks have enjoyed lasts mere minutes. Miami will go for the sweep Sunday, with the Knicks trying to force a Game 5 and end the longest post-season losing streak in NBA history at 13 games. “Our backs are against the wall and we are desperately trying to make a series out of this, and the only way to do it is weve got to win Game 4 to force Game 5,” Knicks interim coach Mike Woodson said. “And our fans deserve a win and this organization deserves a win, so weve got to go out and give it all we can.” Miami and New York met four straight years from 1997-00, all going to a decisive game and the Knicks winning the last three of them. This series has none of the testiness or tension of its predecessors, with the Heat outscoring the Knicks by 20 points per game. Yet the Heat expect a challenge they havent seen yet in this series. “Its going to be very tough,” veteran Udonis Haslem said. “Obviously, theyre a lot of veteran guys. Theyve got a lot of pride. At one point, Game 3 could have went either way. The score didnt reflect how close it was at one point. Weve got to understand what it took to get that win and understand itll be even tougher come Sunday.” Amare Stoudemire is a game-time decision after taking part in the Knicks light practice Saturday. Woodson said Stoudemire was able to rebound and catch with his left hand, which is still covered by padding after he badly cut it punching a fire extinguisher case following Game 2. That was the closest game in the series. Miami took the opener by 33 points, then won by 10, and turned a two-point lead after three quarters into an 87-70 victory in Game 3 on Thursday when LeBron James scored 17 of his 32 points in the final period. The Heat have outscored the Knicks by an average of 97-77 in what could go down as one of the most lopsided sweeps ever if Miami finishes it off Sunday. Orlando beat Atlanta by 25.3 per game in a 2010 second-round series, and the only other four-game sweep with an average margin of more than 20, according to STATS, LLC, was when the Lakers routed San Antonio by 22.3 per game in the 2001 Western Conference finals. Woodson was the Hawks coach in that 2010 series and wasnt retained afterward despite a 53-win season. So its only natural hed worry about a bad last impression before the Knicks decide on his future, even after leading New York to an 18-6 mark after Mike DAntoni resigned. “Sure I do,” he said. “Again, I dont want this record to continue. I want to see our guys experience what a win is like in playoff basketball and we got one more opportunity to do it here at home in front of our fans, and Im going to push guys to be ready and try to play at a high level and play over 48 minutes, because we havent been able to put one of those 48-minute ballgames together.” The Knicks briefly led by double digits in the first half of Game 3, but otherwise its been all Miami. James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh are all shooting above 50 per cent, while Carmelo Anthony is 22 for 64 (34.4 per cent) in the series. The Heat had it fairly easy for three games in the first round last year, too, before being forced to play a fifth after Philadelphia beat them with a 10-0 run to win Game 4, which Wade said taught his team to never relax. “Were just trying to come in, take each game as its own game at a time and not look at it like were up 3-0,” he said. “This is the fourth game. Weve got to come in and play this game. And you cant think about anything else. After that, if we take care of business and do our job, then we get some rest and get ready for the next series. But its a big game and weve got to approach it that way.” Anthony said the Knicks remain confident, even though no NBA team has overcome a 3-0 deficit. They were swept last year by Boston, and their last playoff victory remains Game 3 of a best-of-five series against Toronto on April 29, 2001. “Not winning at all, it hurts,” Anthony said. “I feel that, I go home at night, I think about that. But right now my focus is for tomorrow. Them three games is behind us, and tomorrow is all weve got.” The Knicks are used to early playoff exits, but it was something Tyson Chandler didnt want to think about after winning the NBA title last year with Dallas. “It wont sit well,” he said. “(If) you get swept, its embarrassing because youve come in and you werent able to get a game from a team. So I definitely dont want to go out like that.” Paul Kruger Jersey . 6. The surge in points for European teams pushed Brazil down six place to No.11 and its worst position since the rankings began in 1993. Overall tournament prize money has increased $1.14 million Australian dollars (C$951, 679) or 12.The Rouge takes a look at each team and poses their biggest question heading into the off-season. Today, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Its the biggest question the Winnipeg Blue Bombers will have to answer this off-season and probably the biggest question of the entire winter in the CFL: Will Buck Pierce lead the club in 2013? Pierces concussion history is well documented. So too are the differing opinions on how the 31-year-old should proceed with his career. Some say he should call it quits, fearing for his future health, while others believe he can – and should – make his own decisions and as long as someone is willing to pay him to play football, he should be allowed to. So the question perhaps now becomes: are the Bombers willing to continue paying Pierce to quarterback their team. When healthy, theres no doubt Pierce can be an effective signal caller in the CFL, but reliability is definitely an issue. Pierce saw action in just seven games for Winnipeg laast season and has missed 26 regular season games in his three years with the Bombers. Ray Lewis Purple Jersey. Should the Bombers choose to enter next season with Pierce as their starter, identifying and acquiring a backup they are comfortable with starting some games throughout the year seems like a requirement. Whether that backup is Joey Elliott or Alex Brink, or even Justin Goltz, is another question Winnipeg would have to resolve. Of course, GM Joe Mack and head coach Tim Burke could consider Pierce himself as a backup moving forward. The energetic QB could thrive in a change-of-pace roll. And coming off the bench could help to keep Pierce healthier as well. The third option would obviously be to move on from Pierce. After a 6-12 season in the ‘Peg, off-season change is likely to come. Whether Pierce finds himself part of that change is yet to be seen. The Rouge asks: What should the Winnipeg Blue Bombers do with Buck Pierce this off-season? ‘ ‘ ‘

Saints defence is moving on under Spagnuolo

Saturday, January 26th, 2013

METAIRIE, La. Ray Rice Purple Jersey . — The all-out blitzing the Saints unleashed during recent seasons appears to be a thing of the past under new defensive co-ordinator Steve Spagnuolo. Saints free safety Malcolm Jenkins is lining up closer to the line of scrimmage and is no longer a tackler of last resort. Martez Wilson, drafted last year to play linebacker, finds himself practicing at defensive end. New Orleans defence looks and even sounds different under Spagnuolo, who is more understated than his brazen predecessor, Gregg Williams, though not necessarily less aggressive. “Spags defence isnt a sit-back defence,” Jenkins said Thursday, after the Saints completed their first set of off-season practices, known as organized team activities. “Its not your all-out pressures that you get from a Gregg Williams, but he does have a lot of pressures coming from a lot of different places and preaches playing fast,” Jenkins added. “Youll still see the aggressive style of play with swarming and everybody getting to the ball.” Williams left the Saints shortly after they were eliminated by San Francisco in last seasons playoffs. He then took a job as St. Louis defensive co-ordinator, but was later suspended indefinitely in connection with the NFLs findings that Williams ran a bounty program in New Orleans that offered cash bonuses for injurious hits from 2009 to 2011. The Saints defence is moving on under Spagnuolo, a recent head coach in St. Louis who is perhaps better known for his previous job as the New York Giants defensive co-ordinator. In New York, Spagnuolo oversaw a dominant defensive line that battered Tom Brady in the 2008 Super Bowl, allowing the Giants to narrowly upset a heavily favoured and previously unbeaten New England squad that had rewritten NFL scoring records. While Spagnuolo might be more inclined to rush four or five defenders than the six or even seven the Saints routinely sent the past few seasons, he still expects to apply pressure on the quarterback. “We dont care where the pressure comes from. … Well bring it from all different directions,” Spagnuolo said. “You win up front, offensively and defensively. … There will be an emphasis on winning up front first, both on the run and the pass, and I think we have guys that can do that.” One reason Wilson has been moved to right defensive end is because his speed and versatility allows him to rush the passer or drop into coverage. Spagnuolo also wants New Orleans to play more zone, which he believes will result in fewer big plays given up than last season, when heavy blitzing often left cornerbacks Jabari Greer and Patrick Robinson in man-to-man coverage with little or no help from safeties. Assistant head coach Joe Vitt, who coaches linebackers and also is acting as head coach during Sean Paytons season-long suspension in connection with the bounty probe, said the change to more zone made sense “because of the big plays taking place in the National Football League right now.” “Against zone defence, they are less prevalent,” Vitt said. “It is a little bit of a transition for Patrick and Jabari, but they have really done a good job so far.” Vitt said the Saints defence last season gave up 99 big plays, which New Orleans defines as either a run of 10 or more yards or a pass of 20 or more yards. “Too many,” said Jenkins, who used to line up more than 20 yards from the line of scrimmage and often was the only one left to make the tackle when the blitz wasnt effective. This season, Jenkins said, he and strong safety Roman Harper will have similar roles, with either able to move up in running situations or drop into zone coverage and do some ball-hawking. “Instead of it being a clean-up role like its been the last couple years, Ill be closer to the ball and thatll always give you some opportunities to make some more plays,” Jenkins said. Spagnuolo also has a number of players on his unit who werent in New Orleans last season, including free-agent acquisition Curtis Lofton, who will start at middle linebacker if Jonathan Vilmas full-season suspension in the bounty investigation is upheld. Fellow free-agent signing David Hawthorne also is working with the first team. The Saints have another new linebacker in Chris Chamberlain, who played for Spagnuolo in St. Louis. Defensive back Marquis Johnson is another former Ram who is now with New Orleans and is hoping to see time at nickel back. Spagnuolo said he will adapt his schemes to players strengths and weaknesses, so while some changes are evident already, the finished product remains months away, particularly in light of the fact that players do not wear full pads during OTAs. “I dont know if I have the personnel part figure out yet,” Spagnuolo said. “Its not real football until you put pads on. … Its going to take a little while here as a staff before weve got it figured out which direction were going to go, and were going to need some games, some preseason games. Were going to need some football contact out here.” Notes: There were no signs of progress in the clubs protracted contract negotations with Drew Brees, who is holding out for a long-term extension. Chase Daniel is running the first-team offence until Brees returns. Saints players said they miss Brees but that Daniel is performing well. “Chase runs the huddle awfully similar to Drew,” right tackle Zach Strief said. “The ball is coming out well, Chase is doing a good job, making the right calls and putting us in the right positions. … Its good for him to get the (work). It can only help our team.” … Vilma, who is appealing his suspension, attended all three OTAs this week. He was in meetings but sat out most of the work on the field so he could focus on rehabilitating from minor off-season surgery on his left knee. Vitt said that because the Saints are permitted to have players at headquarters for only six hours per day during OTAs, that approach made more sense. … Spagnuolo said LB Jonathan Casillas did not practice this week because of a sore back. Vonta Leach Jersey . Hes dominating, and a contender just might want him.
